Thanksgiving is finally here, and we are looking forward to a day filled with family, friends, and plenty of good food. While traditions are wonderful (after all, who doesn’t love turkey and pumpkin pie?) there is also something fun about trying new and unexpected things with your loved ones during the holiday season. Here in the Tampa Bay area, we are fortunate to have such a wide array of activities to choose from on and around the big day. Instead of settling for a pickup game of football in the backyard after your Turkey Day dinner, why not try one of these ideas instead?
Sign Up for A Local “Turkey Trot”
5K, 8K, and 1-mile runs are a popular activity on many weekends here in the Tampa Bay area, thanks to our year-round warm climate. Thanksgiving day is no exception, and there are plenty of “Turkey Trot” races happening. This would be a great activity for the whole family since running isn’t required. Sign the kids and yourself up for the 1-mile race and enjoy walking off your lunch (or be ahead of the game and burn off that pie before you even eat it!).
Take Advantage of Local Deals
Many businesses in our area are offering special pricing and/or opening times on Thanksgiving Day. Restaurants, activity centers, and local entertainment venues are planning for plenty of fun throughout Thanksgiving Day and the weekend following. Sky Zone Tampa, for example, is opening at 5 for Family Jump on Thanksgiving Evening. We can’t think of a better way to have fun with the kids (and adults) in your family while getting your exercise in at the same time.
See the Sights
While it’s easy to sit at home and chat or watch football after the Thanksgiving feast, the holiday is actually a great time to enjoy the great city we live in. This is especially true if you have loved ones who have come into town from faraway places and don’t get to enjoy Florida during the rest of the year. Use your time on Thanksgiving to see the sights of Tampa, and enjoy walking along our many bridges, through our parks, or even through downtown itself.
We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your friends and family, regardless of how you choose to spend the day. Check out other activities going on in our area on Thanksgiving here (https://www.813area.com/
