Florida Bar Board Certification And What It Means to Our Sessums Law Group, P.A. Clients
The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization recognizes attorney’s special knowledge, skills, and proficiency in various areas of the law. The lawyers are also required to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and ethics. This process was established in 1982 by the Florida Supreme Court with the goal of helping consumers identify specialists in various areas of the law.
Sessums Law Group, P.A. is proud that Attorney Mark A. Sessums is Board Certified by the Florida Bar in Marital and Family Law and Civil Trial Law. This designation recognizes their legal competence, experience, and ethics in these areas of the law. Mark A. Sessums is also Board Certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and is the only lawyer in the state of Florida with these three board certifications. These Board Certifications demonstrate that Sessums Law Group lawyers possess exceptional skills in all areas of trial practice.
The minimum requirements for certification by the Florida Bar of Legal Specialization are:
- practice of law for five years;
- substantial involvement in the field of law for which certification is sought;
- passing of the written examination required for all applicants;
- satisfactory peer review of competence in the specialty field as well as demonstration of character, ethics, and professionalism in the practice of law. A background check and peer review is conducted by contacting opposing counsel, other Board Certified attorneys and judges in the area of practice; and
- satisfaction of continuing legal education requirements.
Once certification is earned it is valid for five years and then must be evaluated for review to re-certify. Mark A. Sessums has been re-certified on multiple occasions in both Marital and Family Law and Civil Trial Law. Mark A. Sessums is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers that required passage of an additional written test and peer review.
